lol I started a podcast.
I been taking voice recordings recently, of thoughts or notes or observations. And the other day I was talking to my pal on the phone while I was walking in a swamp. When we hung up I kept talking and decided to record what I was saying to help practice communication approaches.
This is the first time I’m doing this, it was kinda fun and vulnerable and helpful for me. So I’m gunna do it - holy hell how do I shut off the predictive text bullshit in this text editor wtf substack i thought this was a writing app lmao.
Here’s my thoughts while I was scouting for a walk and class I gave a couple weeks ago. I luckily don’t step on a snake. I yammer about Fusiform Rust (Cronartium quercuum), a fungal plant pathogen which historically was fairly marginal but has become a total force in the region. There’s a direct connection between the increased virulence + pathogenicity of C quercuum and the pines in lines bullshit that covers the lower half of this state.
Theres a bumbling intro to the longleaf ecosystem complex mix in there for good measure and a brief opinion on Smitty.
I’m working on having a newsletter out sometime, I’d be lying if I said I thought it’d be out soon. But I’ll be speaking at the Gulf South Mycological Society’s winter foray and I need to prep a bit so maybe those goals align. In the meantime, I have a couple of these little rants I’m calling “Field Notes” for now that I’ll put up when I have time.
Anyway let me know if you liked it. Maybe if you didn’t like it I’m good on that.
Thanks + good luck out there
